Bias / EEO — caution, not counsel
A ranker that reads a résumé will pick up whatever the résumé and the job text contain, including proxies you did not mean to score. Vendor pages like to say “unbiased” or “explainable.” That is marketing. It is not a defense.
What we will say, as operators, not as lawyers:
- Use screening as a first pass. A human should still see people you might advance. Do not auto-reject on a score you cannot explain to the candidate or to an investigator.
- Keep the job description honest. Garbage criteria in, garbage rank out. Manatal’s grid includes customizable weighting; that does not make the weights lawful.
- U.S. federal EEO rules still apply to hiring software. Some jurisdictions add rules for automated employment decision tools (NYC’s AEDT law is the example everyone cites; it may or may not apply to you). We are not your counsel. If this is a regulated process, talk to one before you turn the ranker on.
- We will not print a vendor’s “2.5× faster” or “70–90% less screening time” as a fact. VONQ’s product page uses those figures. They are not Hirelane measurements and they are not accuracy rates.

Zoho Recruit (zoho.com/recruit/pricing.html): Corporate Enterprise carries the “Includes AI” badge and lists AI Candidate Matching. USD from recruit-pricing-val.json: Corporate Enterprise $50 annual / $60 monthly per recruiter; Corporate Standard $25/$30 does not wear that badge. Forever Free is one active job. Skip if you wanted matching on the free or Standard card.
Who should skip AI screening
- One open role. Read the résumés. Breezy Bootstrap or Zoho Forever Free for the pipeline.
- You already pay for an HRIS and hire fewer than ~10 people a year. Do not add a ranker.
